Plano Balloon Festival
Well, folks, the Plano Balloon Festival was literally blown away. Too much wind and weather. The exhibitors did the best they could with what they had to work with and a few brave souls showed their stuff anyway.
I already have a bazillion photos of balloons in the air from last year, but this event made me focus on a different aspect of the balloon festival. The Balloonists gave the audience a pretty hot time as they blasted away on their furnaces (is that what they are called...someone enlighten me) for the evening "Glow".
The color of light records differently than what our eyes see. The flames were a bright orange and yellow with an occasional bue spike. Letting the people go darker, they would have only been sillouettes If I had exposed for the flames. Getting enough exposure for good skin tones on the people caused the hot values in the flames to blow out or become "clipped".
Sometimes the dynamic range in a potential image exceeds what can be recorded. This is where the human factor comes in and why you can't just leave the camera on "auto" and control your results. You decide what is important when setting the exposure.
Creativity really counts in Photography. Find something cool to shoot! Posted are photos of how I saw the event.
